Kurma Mariami in Malaysia and the Medicinal Claims of Dates

Kurma Mariami Malaysia

Three questions come up constantly when people ask about Kurma Mariami: what makes it different, is it really good for diabetes/blood pressure/whatever a seller claimed, and where to buy it without overpaying. Here are honest answers to all three.

"What makes Mariami different?"

It's an Iranian variety, usually AA or AAA grade in Malaysian shops. Dark, near-black skin, soft and slightly wrinkled, sweetness with a caramel edge and a little smokiness. Size-wise it sits between a small Safawi and a plump Piarom. Full grading details are on this Kurma Mariami Piarom page.

"Is it good for [health condition]?"

This is the question we get the most, usually because a seller's caption said so. Short answer: no date, Mariami included, treats or manages a medical condition. Dates have fibre and natural sugar like any fruit does — that's a nutrition fact, not a health claim. If you're managing diabetes, blood pressure or anything else and wondering whether dates fit your diet, ask your doctor, not a product caption. We'd rather lose a sale than repeat a claim we can't back up.

"Where should I buy it?"

Match the price to the grade — AAA should cost more than AA, and if it doesn't, something's off. Ask when it was imported; Mariami dries out within a few months of poor storage and loses the caramel note. Keep it sealed and away from heat once you get it home. For a look at how dates actually reach Malaysian buyers, this wholesaler history piece is worth a read.

We carry Mariami year-round with grade and harvest date disclosed upfront — check our import and nutrition guide if you're comparing it to other varieties before you order.
