Most of what gets called a "healthy fruit" claim on packaging is marketing copy, not a lab result. Before trusting any of it, a buyer or trader is better off checking three things on the pack itself: moisture content, storage format, and how long the batch has been sitting before it reaches you.
Dried dates are sold two main ways — vacuum-sealed and loose in an open carton. Vacuum-sealed packs hold moisture steady for months because air (and the mould spores that travel in it) can't reach the fruit. Loose cartons breathe. That's fine for stock that turns over in a few weeks, but leave a loose carton sitting in a humid store for two months and you'll see sugar sweating on the skin, sometimes a white bloom that isn't mould but looks like it and puts customers off anyway.
Moisture percentage matters more than most labels admit. A batch sitting around 18-20% moisture stays soft and sells well as a table fruit. Push past 24% without proper sealing and you're running a spoilage clock — the fruit ferments from the inside before it visibly rots. Suppliers who can quote you an actual moisture reading, not just "fresh" or "premium," are the ones worth reordering from.
Batch age is the other half of it. A carton packed three weeks ago and one packed five months ago can look identical on a shelf. Ask for a pack date or lot number. If a supplier can't give you one, that itself tells you something about how the stock has been tracked between farm and warehouse.
