A Comprehensive Guide to Wholesale Dates Prices in Malaysia

Kurma medjool Palestine

Every price in this guide comes from one Malaysian date wholesaler's online list, read on 27 October 2026. They are October 2026 prices, not a market average, and they will move. Every date sold in Malaysia is imported, so every price below is for imported fruit.

A wholesale list can be read many ways. This one is read by grade: within each variety, what does the next grade up cost on the same pack size? That one number, the step, tells a buyer more than the letters do.

Grade letters are each seller's own size sort

A, AA, AAA and Jumbo are each importer's own size sorting. So an AA from this list says nothing about an AA from another seller, and the only fair comparison is inside one list. That is why every step below compares listings from the same wholesaler.

The 5kg ladders that were in stock

Variety Grade (as listed) Pack RM RM/kg Step from the grade below
Mariami A Normal 5kg 75 15.00 entry
Mariami AA 5kg 129 25.80 +RM54
Mariami AAA VIP 5kg 148 29.60 +RM19
Safawi A No.2 (Mini) 5kg 80 16.00 entry
Safawi A No.1 (Small) 5kg 95 19.00 +RM15
Safawi AA 5kg 153 30.60 +RM58
Safawi AAA 5kg 163 32.60 +RM10
Safawi Jumbo 5kg 195 39.00 +RM32
Ajwa A No.1 (Small) 5kg 115 23.00 entry
Ajwa VIP AAA 5kg 175 35.00 +RM60
Medjool Premium Jumbo 5kg 280 56.00 entry
Medjool Super Jumbo 5kg 315 63.00 +RM35

All twelve cartons in the table were in stock on the check date. Every one of them was also marked down from a higher regular price, which is true of the whole list that day.

Mariami: the big step comes first

Mariami is an Iranian date, dark, semi-dry and chewy. Going from A Normal to AA costs RM54 more per 5kg carton. Going on from AA to AAA VIP costs only RM19. A buyer who has already decided against the entry grade pays relatively little to go all the way to the top in-stock grade: the AAA VIP carton is RM148, against RM75 for A Normal.

Two other Mariami 5kg cartons appear on the list, an A No.2 at RM68 and an AA (No.2) at RM80. Both were out of stock. A 1kg bag of Mariami AAA was in stock at RM40, which is RM10.40 a kilo more than the AAA VIP carton.

Safawi: small steps, then one jump

Safawi comes from the Madinah region. It is longer than Ajwa, dark brown to black, soft and chewy. All five Safawi 5kg cartons were in stock, the only variety with five in-stock grades in the same pack size.

The two A sorts sit RM15 apart. Then AA costs RM58 more than A No.1, the largest step on the Safawi ladder. AAA adds only RM10 to AA, and Jumbo adds RM32 to AAA. If the AA price is acceptable, AAA is close behind it.

The 1kg bags follow the same order: Safawi A at RM35 and AAA Jumbo at RM45 were in stock, and AA at RM40 was out of stock.

Ajwa: a gap where the middle grades should be

Ajwa is the Madinah date: small, roundish, near-black, with finely wrinkled skin. Only two Ajwa 5kg cartons were in stock, A No.1 (Small) at RM115 and VIP AAA at RM175, so the visible step is RM60. The grades that would sit around them were all out of stock: A No.2 (Mini) at RM95, AA at RM145, VVIP Jumbo at RM215, XL Super Jumbo at RM370, and a second VIP AAA listing at RM231.

The 1kg Ajwa bags give a finer ladder. A was RM31, AA RM36 and AAA VIP (Large) RM44, all in stock, so each step is RM5 and then RM8. VVIP Jumbo at RM55 was out of stock.

Medjool: one step of RM35

The Medjool listings are all named as Palestinian. The fruit is large, very soft, with a rich caramel taste. Premium Jumbo and Super Jumbo 5kg cartons were in stock at RM280 and RM315, a step of RM35 a carton or RM7 a kilo. The Large 5kg carton, at RM250, was out of stock.

Medjool is also packed in smaller units. A 12×500g Jumbo case was RM355 and an 8×900g Jumbo case was RM448, both in stock, and a single 900g Jumbo box was in stock at RM70. A second 12×500g Jumbo listing, at RM290, was out of stock, and the Large grade was out of stock in every pack on the list.

Lines without a grade ladder this month

Deglet Noor, the Tunisian and Algerian date called kurma tangkai when sold on the stem, had one in-stock listing: 12 packets of 400g, marked semi-dry, at RM88 for 4.8kg. The other nine listings in the Deglet Noor category were out of stock.

Rotab Sukkary Premium was in stock in a 3kg pack at RM63 (RM21 a kilo). The three 12×600g rotab packs on the list were all out of stock, and so were Mabroom AA 5kg at RM230 and Mashrook AAA Jumbo 5kg at RM105.

Using the step, not the letter

Write down the step before you write down the grade. On this list, the expensive move on Mariami is the first one, on Safawi it is the middle one, and on Ajwa the 5kg ladder had no middle at all on the check date. Those patterns belong to this seller's sorting; another wholesaler's list will have its own.

Demand peaks before and during Ramadan, with Hari Raya, weddings, kenduri and umrah gifts as other peaks. Prices on any list change, so ask for a current quote before ordering. More about this site is on the about page, and the contact page gives a WhatsApp number.
